TIM Cusens

Tim is a PhD student in the Fritz lab investigating microbially induced calcite precipitation. Their work mainly focuses on using synthetic biology approaches to optimise how bacteria create a micro-environment that is conducive for the formation of calcite crystals. Through applications in biotechnology and environmental engineering, Tim aims to apply this research to the emerging field of engineered biomaterials for a more resilient and sustainable built environment.

Beyond their work in synthetic biology, Tim is fascinated by the roles bacteria play in the global ecosystem, and the intersection between art and biological science.
